Drug Resistance and Emerging Infectious Diseases: Meeting the Challenge- December 12-14, 2011
Sean Ekins, CDD’s Collaborations Director, will participate in a panel discussion at the Drug Resistance and Emerging Infectious Diseases: Meeting the Challenge conference on December 12-14, 2011 in Baltimore, MD. The panel will take place on Dec 13 at 3:30 – 4:30pm.
The panel topic is Business Model Innovation to Support R&D for Effective Antibiotics:
Across the pharmaceutical industry, collaboration and partnership is essential to meeting the health needs of the public. However, large capital investment, high risk and low expected revenue—due to current usage policies—push industry towards product classes with highest expected returns on investment (RoI). The increasing cost of R&D, decreasing approval rates, high opportunity costshave deterred most from antibiotic products. However, business model innovation is providing new ways to align the mission, objectives and activities across public and private sectors. Nongovernmental and non-profit organizations play an important role in accelerating the effort to develop and bring to market innovative products to combat antibiotic resistance worldwide. This panel of donor and developer organizations will discuss their organization’s programs and efforts to address the pipeline shortage.
