CDD’s TBDA Collaboration with BMGF, Glaxo’s “Open Lab”& half-a-dozen Big Pharmas Highlighted in the Economist

The Economist’s Jan 12 Schumpeter series on world business trends highlighted the Gates Foundation.

 

Th Gates foundation is promoting collaboration with academics, non-profit, and government laboratories with 7 big pharmas! The Economist mentions a specific publication by the World Economic Forum (which meets in Davos this month) which argues:

“that companies and non-profits need to collaborator more to develop more drugs…Glaxo has opened its Tres Cantos research facilities to academic and government scientists in order to collaborate on discovering new antibiotics. The Gates Foundation has organised an accelerator programme that brings together research teams from academia and private companies such as Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Eli Lilly and Glaxo.”
