Vault Snack #13 – Using Batch Link Fields to Track Relationships Between Entities

Written by Abe Wang | Apr 26, 2021 7:48:36 PM

Hello, CDD Vault users! It's springtime and as John Muir would say, we "hope your Spring work is going on with joyful enthusiasm."

Late in 2020, our brilliant CDD Development team released a new Batch field type for linking together Batches/Lots across your available CDD Vaults. Given the increasing popularity of storing entities other than small molecules in CDD Vault, these "Batch Link" fields allow users to link Batch records to other entities stored in any available CDD Vault.

These Batch Link fields are created by your Vault Administrator who can use the standard Settings > Vault > Batch Fields tab to create a new Batch Field with the Data Type of "Batch Link". Batch links can be made within the same project, across multiple projects within the same Vault, and across multiple Vaults! Please note, to insert Batch Links to entities stored across separate CDD Vaults, the Link Across Vaults feature must be enabled for your Account. To enable this feature, the Vault Administrator can email Support and request that the feature be activated.

Once the new Batch Link field is created, users may populate it with a link that references a specific Batch of another Entity. When manually creating or editing a Batch to populate a Batch Link data field, users may use the CDD Vault "look-up" feature that searches for Entities already registered in your CDD Vault(s).

Users may also populate Batch Link fields via the Import Data wizard by including the Molecule Batch-ID for the Batch to be linked.

Any link stored in these Batch Link fields is, well, a clickable link that allows the user to quickly access the details of that linked Batch. Also, the Molecule/Entity "Show Page" contains a "Links" sub-tab that tracks all relationships that have been created for a given Batch.

We hope you find these Batch Link fields useful and are eager to hear how YOU implement this feature. Drop us an email and let us know your thoughts and, as always, don't forget to nominate your topics for future Vault Snacks.

If this Vault Snack leaves you hungry for more, all previous Vault Snacks can be found here and as always, feel free to contact CDD Support - we are available to help you succeed in using CDD Vault.
