The New Trend in Science – Collaborative Technology!
Collaborative technology has been in place for a decade, yet the trend towards collaboration is only now becoming a hot topic. David Raths article in KM World “Knowledge-sharing platforms emerge from life science research collaboration” provides a plethora of examples for this. Established companies likeCollaborative Drug Discovery have created a tool for the virtual pharma. The Pistoria Alliance is utilizing these tools to lower the barriers to R&D innovation. Organizations like the National Institute of Health (NIH) are using these same collaborative tools as a catalyst for new ideas. Comments by Chris Molloy, VP of Corporate Development at IDBS points out that “Collaboration is at the heart of the R&D process. Without it ideas remain ideas, not innovations.”
So how can science in the 21st century overcome the obstacles of less time, less funding, and more pressures to produce? Embrace the connectivity of a globalized world, reach out with the collaborative knowledge tools that are now available and collaborate with others to mutually advance the productivity and innovation of science. Your world and our world will become a better more productive place through collaboration. As secure collaborative platforms become the de facto standards, do you wish to be someone at the forefront of this trend or someone left working in silos or worse going it all alone?
